Jessica Maltar
Child and Youth Counsellor
It can feel lonely and frustrating when you are trying your best and still don’t feel good enough. I found my way to a healthier path and healing from emotional wounds as a part of my journey navigating mental health struggles. This solidified my hope for every person seeking healing, help and growth.
I have a down to earth, caring, light-hearted approach and believe we are partners in this journey. I am not here to judge you or tell you the things you are doing wrong. I want to understand your point of view, teach you new ways to cope and ultimately, help you feel better about yourself.
MY APPROACH
Relationship
The foundation of being a CYC is creating a therapeutic relationship. That is always where we will start because I believe it is important for us to build a trusting and non-judgemental foundation for our work together.
Strength-based
I take a strength-based approach, meaning we find what you are already doing well, and build upon that. I hope to support youth and families in understanding themselves better within the context of their current relationships, belief systems and lives.
Awareness
I continue to learn and practice self-reflection in my personal and professional life to increase my own awareness. I bring mindfulness into my work with clients to help them live each moment in the present, worry less about the future and ruminate less about the past.
